This is truly a day out to remember as we journey along the North Wales coastal route before climbing high into Snowdonia and up the beautiful Conway Valley to Blaenau Ffestiniog. Our train will be double-headed throughout by two of the few remaining English Electric Class 37 heritage locomotives. We have two optional excursions available for a return steam hauled journey over the full length of either the Ffestiniog Railway to Porthmadog, or, the brand new Welsh Highland line from Caernarvon to the foot of Snowdon.
At Crewe we take the secondary route through Chester, where we pass the Roman Walls and cross the River Dee and soon after enter Wales running alongside the Irish Sea passing through Prestatyn and Rhyl on a coastline famed for its beaches and views. At Llandudno Junction our train reverses for the truly spectacular journey up the Conway Valley and into the Snowdonia National Park with views of tumbling waterfalls and high mountains. Our train terminates at the former slate mining town of Blaenau Ffestiniog where you may join our optional tour (see below) or perhaps visit the Llechwedd Slate Caverns situated just outside the town. Our train returns in the late afternoon retracing our journey over the same pretty route.
We are pleased to offer a choice of the following two optional excursions which should be pre-booked at the same time as the main tour:
