We are pleased to offer this unforgettable train operating from stations in the Midlands hauled by the pride of the London, Midland & Scottish Railway – Princess Royal No 6201 “Princess Elizabeth” and follows a new route for this class of engine as we undertake the 300 mile return journey from Stratford-on-Avon via Hatton, Leamington Spa, Oxford and along the Great Western main line to Bristol for a break for sightseeing. We return in the late afternoon through the Severn Tunnel and along the beautiful Welsh Marches border line through Hereford and Ludlow to Shrewsbury where we say farewell to “Princess Elizabeth”.

Our train is diesel hauled through the midlands to Shakespeare’s birthplace at Stratford-on-Avon where time should be available for photographs as “Princess Elizabeth” attaches to our train, then with a full head of steam our journey continues through beautiful Warwickshire with mile after mile of glorious rolling hills. We anticipate a fast run through Banbury and Oxford to Didcot where we join the Great Western main line for an unforgettable journey through Swindon and Bath Spa as the pride of the LMS shows ‘Gods Wonderful Railway’ what the opposition can do over Brunel’s famous main line. The first part of our journey ends at the historic city of Bristol – home to Brunel’s masterpiece of Victorian engineering the SS ‘Great Britain’ where time will be available for sightseeing as our locomotive is serviced.

Our return will be in the late afternoon as we journey through the longest rail tunnel in Britain under the River Severn and into South Wales before turning north near Newport and continuing through Abergavenny to Hereford with spectacular views of the Brecon Beacons and Black Mountains as the setting sun casts a golden glow over the mountains and valleys, and, as the white exhaust trail from our engine passes the carriage window we soak up the atmosphere of railway travel as it was meant to be. At Shrewsbury we say farewell to “Princess Elizabeth” as we continue homeward behind a more modern form of traction.
